Things are really a product one’s thoughts. You’ll find physical instances. For those who have cancer, that’s a physical state, it’s science. There is no way of thinking that can get rid of that. But when cancer hits you, like it hits millions of people, it doesn’t mean that all you have to do is lie in bed and wait for fatality to take place. There lies the power of your thoughts.
Cancer may have taken over your body but it doesn’t mean it will defeat you. Needless to say there are also prescription drugs and treatments needed. But medication and treatment cure, they don’t make you well. What makes you well is a strong mind-set.
Buddhists are fantastic with peace of mind. But you don’t have to be one to obtain peace of mind. There are three techniques-yoga, meditation and self hypnosis techniques.
Yoga might be a physical activity. But everybody can do yoga. It’s not like mountain climbing that you have to be in shape to get it done. Of course, it takes a lot of practice, too, to do the positions appropriately. But apart from training, yoga is also about focus. When you focus, the mind is at peace. Yoga achieves the perfect unity between body and mind.
You don’t need to go to India to discover how to meditate. There are techniques in meditation taught by Buddhists but the goal is just to attain peace of mind. You don’t need to become a monk so there really is no need to study meditation. You just have to learn the principle. The concept is achieving peace of mind and peace can be equated with quiet. Keep the mind quiet. Even in a heavily noise polluted city, one can meditated. Like yoga, this entails concentration. If you are enthralled with the chanting that goes with meditation, then you can do that, if it’s easier for you to achieve a quiet mind that way. It’s not necessary though.
The self-hypnosis tactics are the process of telling your body to relax. It’s just like meditation-keeping still and quiet physiologically and psychologically. But with self-hypnosis techniques, you tell the different parts of your body, except for the head, to relax, one by one. You start at the bottom up. You tell your toes, quietly, to relax and then your feet, the legs and so on and so forth.
